The Society was created in the fall of 2006 as an alternative Advocacy vehicle for Opticianry. While we respect the efforts of the Ontario Association of Optometrists in representing their members we envision a second and very unique role for the Society.

There are many shared concerns and issues that face both Opticianry and Optometry. We feel that the Society can serve a valuable function serving as a bridge between the two professions. Through combined efforts of both professions, issues such as ‘internet’ contact lenses, illegal refraction and illegal dispensing can be dealt with more effectively and possibly with some savings of resources to both professions.
